With caribou populations in the Kitselas Traditional Territory reduced to about 20 individuals, this project focuses on restoring critical habitats. The primary objective is to decommission and reforest logging roads, which increase predator access and disrupt caribou breeding grounds. Extensive analysis and collaboration with provincial authorities ensure the project adheres to caribou recovery mandates, reducing human and predator interference in key habitats.

Location

Kitselas Traditional Territory

Kitselas First Nation is a progressive Indigenous community in northwestern B.C., with traditional territory surrounding Terrace and the Skeena River.

Critical Habitat Recovery

Decommissioned and reforested old logging roads to reduce predator and human interference, creating safer environments for the critically endangered caribou population.
